About

The Composer Collective is an inclusive community for composers across all genres of music and sound art, generations and experiences.

The Composer Collective is inspired by the milieu, as well as the space for sharing stories, ideas and developments of one's music and work as a composer, which among others has emerged across generations and music genres during approx. 10 years of Composition Camps.

Composition Camp was started in 2013 by Søren Møller in collaboration with Autor and since 2021 also in collaboration with Danish Composers’ Society, in the desire to create an inspiring and dynamic forum for professional jazz, film and electronic composers. An open forum where experiences can be shared, and new knowledge and inspiration developed.

During the life of the camp, composers such as Bent Sørensen, Marcos Balter, Gavin Bryars, Chaya Czernowin and Caroline Shaw have taught and inspired the participants, who have also shared their work, inspirations, challenges, thoughts and perspectives on and around their work.

The Composer Collective wants to build on this background and experience of a shared space for composers. A shared space we otherwise rarely encounter, due to the character and nature of our work.

The Composer Collective is for everyone from DK, though the current meetings are held at KoncertKirken, Copenhagen. The concept can be taken on by composers in other locations of the country to cultivate further meeting spaces. And composers from all over the country are always welcome to join in Nørrebro when it is held during 2022/23.

There is also a Composer Collective in Norway, which has similar visions. So it is not a unique format for the few, but rather there is a desire to build the framework for a different way of experiencing oneself as a composer, in a potentially more expansive and accessible environment than one might encounter on a daily basis.

The format is relatively open. It's about creating a common environment where you as a creative composer/musician can meet in an informal, safe and inclusive space, eat dinner together and talk about the topics that concern us.

It is possible to arrange presentations, workshops, talks or the like. But this is something that can only happen on the basis of interest from the actors in The Composer Collective.
The Composer Collective is created and defined by the composers who want to be part of it.

The activity and gatherings of The Composer Collective is made possible with generous support from Dansk Komponistforening (Danish Composers’ Society).
